Blog Post: Digital Marketing Tips and Tricks with Neil Patel

In a recent webinar, Meltwater hosted one of the top influencers on the web, Neil Patel…who shared his Digital Marketing tips and tricks to succeed in this ever-changing world of digital marketing.

‘Digital marketing, and all its sub-categories, including SEO, social media, content creation, email, and more, is critical for any company’s growth in 2020 and beyond.’

‘It can help you differentiate yourself from competitors, better engage prospects, turn prospects into leads, and ultimately convert leads into loyal customers.’ Meltwater

Here is a brief summary of the webinar. We hope you find this as useful as we did.

Fact # 1, Branding is going omnichannel

Google Adwords are receiving the bulk share of ad spend and the platform delivers the best conversion rates. But that is not where your digital marketing should stop.

The fact is that the average number of social shares per post on social media has declined since 2015, so what can you can do?

Social networks want you to keep people on their channels. If you push people away from these channels the social channels will restrict your reach. Create content for social to keep people on the platforms. Video is a great way of doing this.

Reuse content everywhere. Google does not penalize you for this.

Create blog posts. Search engines want to rank content-based pages, instead of product or service-based pages.

What percentage of your organic traffic goes to your blog?

If you want to build your authority or brand, releasing educational based content helps you be seen as an expert. Google has something called E – Expert, Authority and Trust, and educational based content matches what Google is looking for.

Not everyone speaks English, so creating content in other languages leads to great traffic gains.

Blogs will help you get found.

‘What’s cool about going omni-channel is that it’s not hard to see what’s working for the competition’. Neil Patel

Tools like SEMrush show you what keywords your competitors are ranking for, what competitors ads are running, and how you stack up against their social channels.

Fact # 2, User metrics are the key to beating Google

Most experiences start with search.

How to get more love from Google? Use Google Search Console. What pages are getting impressions vs clicks. You want a high CTR (click through rate). Analyze your keywords. If low, your copy is not compelling.

10 keywords that skyrocket CTR

  1. How to
  2. List related/numbers/listicles
  3. Free
  4. You
  5. Tips
  6. Blog post
  7. Why
  8. Best
  9. Tricks
  10. Great

Adding a year also helps…like ‘how to start a blog in 2021’.

Once you have added these keywords, or made updates to your existing blog post, go to Google Search Console and request a re-index. Wait 30 days to see the results.

Did you Know! On YouTube, it doesn’t matter how many likes you get…if you get a ton of comments, the video goes viral. On Instagram, when people swipe through your carousel of images, even if they don’t heart it, you get double the reach as this creates engagement.

Social media platforms measure engagement as they want you to stick around as long as possible. Digital Khaki can help you with your marketing strategy.

Fact # 3, You have to focus on branding

The easiest way to build a brand is the rule of 7.

When someone sees or reacts with your brand 7 times, you are starting to build a good brand.

Tips:

  • Emails are still effective
  • Use push notifications in combination with email marketing
  • And don’t forget about chat bots…especially on platforms like Google

Conversions lead to success, not traffic!

Fact # 4, Conventional CRO techniques won’t work well

Create lead magnets. Collect emails through useful info, how to content, free white papers and step by step guides.

‘Emails are only responsible for 19% of our leads, but they make up 28% of our qualified leads.’ Neil Patel Digital

Tips on how to create lead magnets:

  1. If you ask a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question first, you will typically generate 20% to 30% more leads.
  2. Journeys and courses convert better than eBooks by 16%.
  3. You should have multiple lead magnet offerings throughout your website (homepage, blog, header, exit pop-up).
  4. A good lead magnet will generate 5 emails for every 100 unique visitors.

How do you figure out what lead magnet to offer?

  1. Survey your visitors using Survey Monkey. Ask them ‘What can I help you with’ – it’s free!
  2. Use Buzzsumo to see what’s hot in your space.

Fact # 5, Digital Marketing is a team effort

Don’t go it alone. Marketers needs to work with your sales team and design.

Gary V uses a whole team to create content.

Fact # 6, Digital Marketing is too expensive, data needs to drive decisions

Conversion optimization is like dating. You don’t ask someone to marry them when you first meet. You go on a few dates, get to know each other…and after a few years, you propose.

Get people to engage first and then push sales to them.

A quiz works well as a tactic to do this. Use personalization in your text.

Fact # 7, To win, you’ll have to think like a winner

What do all winners have in common? They got to where they are with mentors and coaches.

Invest in mentorship and Learn from the best.

What works today may not work tomorrow. Test and learn.

There are three types of people:

‘Those that make things happen, those that watch things happen and those that are wondering what just happened.’
